SEATTLE AQUARIUM
2024
UI/UX, Illustration
As a member of the Rare Volume team, I collaborated on designing the digital interactive experiences developed for the Seattle Aquarium’s new Ocean Pavilion. Our team focused on creating accessible and human-centered digital experiences that aligned with the Aquarium’s mission of fostering inclusivity, sustainability, and community. Through a collaborative and iterative design approach, our team developed interactive experiences that would seamlessly integrate with the newly designed exhibits.
Fish ID
Across 19 locations throughout the Ocean Pavilion, touchscreen "Fish ID" interactives provide rich contextual information for live exhibits. These carefully designed interfaces allow visitors to explore marine species more in depth. The organic layout, hand illustrated elements, and playful animations make learning into an immersive, enjoyable experience.
The flow varies from location to location according to the species that it features. This ensures a seamless, contextually relevant experience for the user.
With construction still underway and no way to test the our work in situ prior to development, we used plans, mockups and testing to best design for the intended screen sizes and surroundings.

The Reef
Conceived as a special experience for children, the Reef is a “crawl-through” tunnel, inspired by the structures and textures of a coral reef. The experience includes two video screens and a speaker inside the tunnel, along with a third “control panel” screen outside, allowing visitors to scroll through a library of available content, and select the videos playing inside.
Pocket Tour
To augment the visitor experience in the pre-existing aquarium exhibits we designed a “pocket-tour” that people can access on their phone by scanning QR codes. This interactive allows visitors to take a deep-dive and more about marine life and conservation.
